As a person who is becoming involved in the music business, I have seen and analyzed how this business works in quite a few different ways. Most of the people that work in this industry have tried to use strategies (forcing the creativity) to succeed on the first try, but many of them have forgotten the meaning of the word passion as it applies to this industry. Many artists work from one album to another, fruitless attempts at fame. Some of them make it using this process but it does not always have to work like this. Many artists have influenced me through their dedication to the passion behind the music… artists that, with passion, have taken advantage of time to choose the best moments to share their music with the world. One of these artists is Tommy Torres, a pop rock singer, songwriter, composer and producer from Puerto Rico. Tommy has become one of the most important (and in my case influential) singers in the Hispanic music market. He has marked his line like a songwriter with his two latest albums (“Estar de moda no esta de moda and Tarde o Temprano”) and sharing one of his songs with the famous Ricky Martin, “Tu Recuerdo”. Tommy’s first love when it comes to his work has always been difficult to pinpoint because he has been recognized as equally successful in singing, songwriting and producing. I’m sure many striving artists ask themselves, “What is it about Tommy Torres’ music…?” because they see themselves creating new albums year after year, promoting their names and music endlessly etc., and not quite hitting the mark that, in Tommy’s case, makes the difference. He demonstrates that creating this art form is not a contest or tournament in which the winner is the first person to get to the top; he has said that music works differently for him. He can spend three to four years working on an album but within that time to create, he works like it is going to be his first album ever. When his album is finally released, the entire Hispanic community sees the results of this dedication to his passion. The sound is so uniquely his own, his key is music that comes at exactly the time it’s meant to come. This is the magic of an artist, to be what he is, leave the right moment come on its own, and we all enjoy the results.
